Terry Ward
April 20, 1949-Oct. 9, 2024
Sunnyvale, California
Born on April 20, 1949, in Long Island NY, released to Heaven on October 9, 2024. His big, beautiful but failing heart finally gave up. He said he was ready and unafraid.
Terry had two sisters, Candee, two years older and Leslie, two years younger. They were his best friends for life.
His father Robert was a railroad mailman and a rough influence on Terry. His mother Muriel was an Angel. Terry flew from the nest at 18 and joined the Navy, which brought him here to Moffett Field. He married sweet Harriet, but the young couple would not have a long marriage as she passed away in his arms a few short years later.
Terry was a loving man and married three more times: to Susan which produced daughter Sara Elizabeth, then Carol, with whom he shared daughter Jaqueline Marie, and then a Final Final to Tina, his widow.
Terry worked at the US Postal Service for forty years, mostly as a Letter Carrier then as a driving instructor. He loved being a Carrier, watching “his” families and businesses grow. He was known to all as The Mailman, even years after retiring from the Post Office.
After his stint with the USPS, he became the Worthy Secretary for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a position he thrived in. It was fitting he worked for a charitable organization as he would do anything for anyone without complaint.
Terry loved to travel, the main reason he joined the Navy. He also loved his San Francisco Giants and was thrilled with their World Series wins in the 2010’s. He loved local high school sports as much as the pros and was an announcer for KMVT for years. He was an avid reader, from detective novels to biographies and everything in between, including cookbooks so he could create delicious and inventive meals for his family and friends. His granddaughter, Miss R was Terry’s pride and joy and he knows she will grow up to be a smart, strong, and kind woman. (Grampa Mailman is watching over you.)
Terry is survived by his broken-hearted wife Tina, his beloved sisters Leddy and Candee and her husband Phil. His two amazing daughters Jackie and her husband Michael; Sara and her husband Scott and their daughter Reagan. His niece Marissa whom he adored and admired. His ex-wives Susan and Carol who remained his good friends. Speaking of friends, he had more than most, too many to list. If you knew Terry, you loved him. Rest easy, Mailman. See you on the Flip-Flop.
