Sue Basso was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 22, 1941 to Ruth and Claude Artero. After spending her first 2 ½ years of life in South America, the family moved to the U.S., eventually settling in Danville, California. During her senior year at San Ramon High School Sue traveled as an exchange student to Patros, Greece, and the experience sparked a lifelong passion for travel.

Sue attended Stanford University, graduating in 1962 with a degree in International Relations. While a senior in college, she met her husband, Lawrence Basso, who at the time was a student at UCSF Medical School. They married on February 24, 1963 and went on to raise three children while living in Menlo Park. Later in life, Sue’s children chose to raise their own families in the area - Sue found joy helping to raise her five grandchildren, being known to them as “Granny Sue.”

Sue loved to read and could usually be found sitting amongst piles of novels, biographies, newspapers and investment magazines. She was an astute self-trained stock investor. Sue loved to swim (weather permitting) and play the piano every day. Later in life, she earned a teaching credential at Notre Dame de Namur in order to teach history at the local high school level.

In addition to her husband, Sue is survived by her three children, Stephanie Basso, Cristy Barnes (John) and Tony Basso; her grandchildren, Connor and Catie Nudelman, Rowen and Ryann Barnes and Trenton Basso; her sister Dr. Mary Louise Artero Bava of Trieste, Italy; and her brother James Artero of Camarillo, California and their respective families.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (in honor of Sue’s sister, Joanne Artero).
