Luise Maier
Feb. 9, 1928-June 29, 2025
Inlet Beach, Florida

Luise Sortino Maier was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 9, 1928. The family moved to “The Farm” outside of Princeton, New Jersey where she learned to hunt and to her chagrin, can tomatoes. I will never can another tomato! Off to college at Trenton State Teachers College where Sortie met her best friends who throughout life remained strong and true.

Ever the maverick, Luise heads West to teach elementary school in San Diego, California. A roommate convinced her (not easy) to attend a Christmas Eve dinner on the US Dixie and she met the love of her life, Bob Maier, a handsome naval officer. Three months later there was an engagement and then a summer wedding. After a few years of teaching, she settled into life as a wife and mother to four daughters.

Luise loved to cook and garden. Keeping her mind sharp and never short of an opinion she could be found listening to Public Radio while tending to the garden. Longtime listener, first time caller…

Luise tried her hand at residential real estate and proved that she was a natural salesperson. She became a top producer in the competitive world of luxury real estate. Not your typical sales personality, but that proved to be her secret weapon. Glasses of wine and delicious food where stories of triumph or despair were swapped. Again, meeting her best friends who throughout life remained strong and true.

The love of travel was always a passion, but Italy never made it off of the number one destination. Being a Sicilian and speaking Italian was always a source of great pride

After Bob’s passing, Luise continued to be an active participant in all that her beloved Palo Alto had to offer. As the years passed and her children were far away, a relocation was a must. Saying goodbye to her hood, she relocated to Northwest Florida. Being close to family made the politics of the area tolerable. Her daughters cared for her in her closing months, and we can all believe that she had a wonderful life.
