Charles David Troglio
Oct. 30, 1942-June 30, 2026
Los Altos, California

Charles David Troglio and his twin sister, Gloria Troglio Walker were born in San Francisco on October 30, 1942. The family moved to Menlo Park in 1947 and were part of the Italian American community. Their father worked in construction and Charlie learned trade skills and the value of an honest day’s labor early on, working full time during his summer breaks from the age of 13. In 1964, he graduated from the University of Santa Clara with a BS in Business Management, but with the Vietnam War at peak, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, becoming Platoon Sargent over the 6 years he served. In 1965 he tested to work for the California Department of Transportation where his career spanned 35 year and his colleagues deemed him “Negotiator Emeritus.” Though he loved to travel the world with his wife, Doni, his home base remained the South Bay throughout his life, including 48 years in his Los Altos home until his passing June 30, 2026. His yard was his passion, with blooming plants always refreshed because, “I love the color.” His garage was a work space where he restored multiple vehicles, including the 1961 Ford Truck his father drove for work. With the early death of his father, Charlie became the head of his family at 24 years old and fully understood that responsibility, assuring that his mother with Alzheimer’s and his wife with ALS received the best care and attention. Gloria passed unexpectedly on December 27, 2023 and Charlie was forever changed after enduring each successive family loss. He was devoted to his Silky Terrier, Bella, loved red wine in the company of friends, and didn’t tolerate fools.
