Bruce Arthur Evans
Oct. 26, 1922-April 7, 2022
Atherton, California

A life well lived, a life well loved.

Bruce Arthur Evans, 99, of Atherton, California, passed away in his sleep April 7, 2022.

Bruce was born October 26, 1922 to Augusta Ophelia and Benjamin Arthur Evans. He graduated from Wingate high school in 1939. He love to talk about his adventures growing up on the farm, working at the family store and riding on his horse bareback with his brother Haskell and his good friend Smooth. He adored his family especially his baby sister, Jean, and they remained the closest of friends up to his passing.

He joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed on Treasure Island in San Francisco, California. He fell in love with San Francisco and the bay area and knew he would bring his family there one day. He served on the USS Wharton until the war’s end. Using the G.I. Bill, he put himself through college earning his business degree.

He worked for McBee Systems and it’s various name changes for over 40 years. He was very enthusiastic about his work and was always on the forefront of the computer world. He used his iPhone to his last day. He enjoyed a successful career and was well loved and respected.

He met Betty Lee Debusk in Knoxville, Tennessee and they married in 1951. They adopted two newborn girls, Linda and then Leslie, and gave them a loving safe home. Betty and Bruce had a full and happy life. They lived in Tennessee, Birmingham, Alabama and in 1967 his company had an opening in San Francisco and he jumped on the opportunity. They moved to Atherton, California, where they happily raised their family. After the girls left the nest, they traveled the world. Bruce died in this home after 55 years of filling it with love and laughter.

A very active man, he liked to”move his blood around!” He loved to play tennis, bike, swim, scuba dive and walk. He was an avid gardener and no one had a green thumb. You could usually find him out in his orchards with a shovel in his hand.

Bruce loved to laugh and make others happy. His one-liners were known to all. When asked by his doctor at 98 what he attributed his long life to, he said without pause, “my attitude.” He wasn’t kidding. No matter what adversity life brought his way he handled it with dignity, grace and if needed humor.

After his beloved Betty passed, Bruce met Nancy Francis and they shared a beautiful friendship for 13 years.

Bruce was pre-deceased by his wife, Betty, his friend Nancy, his son-in-law Roger Fiedler, his parents, brothers John, Malcolm, Haskell, William, Earl and his sister Roselia. He is survived by his loving daughters Linda Evans Fiedler and Leslie Janet Evans, his sister Jean Deal and sister-in-law, Reba Evans and numerous nieces and nephews.
